What? A Day Off?

I'm sitting here, on what is for all intents and purposes, a 'day off' from the office. I have two conference calls this morning, a brief appointment around mid-day, and then the rest of the day is mine to do with as I see fit.

The only problem? The Boy isn't feeling too well, so we'll be hanging out here at Blognut Manor and not doing much of anything. And that? Well, that is A-OK with me because that's what I wanted to do today anyway. Nuthin'.

And this is for all of you, because it amuses me:

So you want a day off. Let's take a look at what that really means.

There are 365 days per year available for work.

There are 52 weeks per year in which you already have 2 days off per week, leaving 261 days available for work.

Since you spend 16 hours each day away from work, you have used up 170 days, leaving only 91 days available.

You spend 30 minutes each day on coffee break which counts for 23 days each year, leaving only 68 days available.

With a 1 hour lunch each day, you used up another 46 days, leaving only 22 days available for work.

You normally spend 2 days per year on sick leave.

This leaves you only 20 days per year available for work.

We are off 5 holidays per year, so your available working time is down to 15 days.

We generously give 14 days vacation per year which leaves only 1 day available for work.

There's no way I'll let you take that day off!

Enjoy your day sorta-off. Hope the boy feels better so you at least can spend it doing nothing instead of tending to a sicko.

Also, I think I spotted a math error in that whole thing but it's Monday so screw it.

After doing all that math I'm exhausted and need a day off.

Ha!!

Well, I'm coming back to work today, after my two week vacation, so I'll see whether it feels like it's worth it!

FRAGRANT LIAR Go right ahead!

CATE Yeah, I'm pretty sure there's a math error in there, too. :)

MO Poor Mo! Math is hard for you, isn't it?

INNA Grad students operate on a different calendar all together. You don't get vacation. Sorry.

G Welcome back - try not to go crazy today.

Huh? I don't do math! I'm an English teacher, remember? And even that is HARD for me with all my misspelled words and run-on sentences and my misuse of "its" and "it's" even though I definitely KNOW the difference!

Math makes my stomach hurt! Good thing I have today off, too!

I am planning to have a few headaches this school year!!! A day off rocks!! Especially without kids.

SHE You don't need to know math. We have HIT 40 for that, and you also know a banker. You're covered.

KEKELYNN I'm here to serve.

HIT 40 I like your thinking!

That is some interesting number crunching.

One day of work? I'll have to rethink my stance on not having a 9 to 5.

Well, now that you put it that way, I see why bosses cringe when we ask for a day off...I feel so...guilty.

OMG you are hanging with Hit 40 too much..Don't do math on your day off woman..I think you have the fever not the kid! See this is why you stay blue all the time!

That snake didn't pass on some S1N1 virus to The Boy, now, did it? (S1N1 for snake-borne virus, H1N1 for hog-borne virus? it's a reach, I admit)

Hope he feels better soon.

Seriously? That day off still sounds wonderful!

I did something like that one time with the amount of awake time that I spend at my house in a day, it was not very much! I love this post!

Suddenly I don't feel so bad about being a slacker. But let me make sure I've got it right... you're saying I'm only SUPPOSED to work one day a year, right? So I'm actually NOT a slacker... I'm actually working a lot more than I should! Whoo hoo! Heeeeeeyyyy... I deserve a raise!!

blognut said...

PHST It is, isn't it?

CB JONES See? You learned something new everyday around here.

SHERRI Don't let the guilt bring you down.

DAR I actually did end up with the headache and fever, so you might be right!

GORILLA I'm not too sure which way you're leaning on this, but the answer is probably more than you're comfortable knowing!

TONI You go, girl!

GUDNUFF I hadn't thought of that, but I should probably look into it.

PASTOR SHARON Better than a day at work, that is for sure.

OTIN You? Sleep too much? NO WAY!

DIANE You are so not a slacker. And YES, you should work only one day each year.

Only 2 days a year for sick days? I take at least 3 weeks of mental health days a year. Unfortunately, "resting" at home on those days seems to exacerbate the problem...sigh.

You are ornery today, Blognut!

No wonder I'm so tired when I get home from my one day at the office. Geesh.
